Silk raked against sore nipples as mom plodded back to bed. Her lids crashed over bloodshot eyes.
His uninvited advance elicited growls he mistook for passion. Unbeknownst to her, he welcomed the stork bearing an “IOU” that she found two weeks later.

Although I’m sure the IOU will turn out to be someone she will be thankful for later!

Such great sensory details–how even silk would feel harsh, yes.

Uch. Even if I could find comfortable pjs the sheets would be too rough. I spent a lot of time sleeping in the rocking chair.

Love the description! Mine were only 14 months apart–a very tiring couple of years 🙂

Mine are also 14 months. Well, 14 1/2 really. I guess they’re not really Irish twins but people use the term to describe my kids anyway. My grandmother truly had Irish twins born 49 weeks apart!

Great title, and I adore the line: “Her lids crashed over bloodshot eyes.” Nicely done.

Thanks! I’m glad that line worked for you. I worked hard to cut it down.

That first line holds quite a bit of imagery.

I’m an irish twin! And mine are 18 months apart, close enough in my book. I love the IOU from the stork!

Oh your poor mom! And you! My sister and I are 18 months apart. My kids are 14 months apart. I remember asking my mom after my second, “How the heck did you do it?” Sheesh, it’s a lot of work!

Yes it is! The first two or so years were the hardest. It’s much easier now except they fight over the same toys, etc. two boys

Oh, this is so well done! I had never heard the term Irish twins but now that I have, the title is a great extra layer.

“growls he mistook for passion” haha! That reminded me of the old Bill Cosby set that ends in “Yooooouuuu did this to Meeeeee!”

Poor mom. I hope that IOU takes a long time to be paid – she’s in need of a long rest. Lovely exposition of the title.

She definitely needs a long rest but not longer than 41 weeks!
